The Lions preseason game against the Patriots is over in the minds of many sports fans. Been there, done that, cringed, fell asleep, tried to forget.

But Mike Valenti hadn't weighed in ... until Monday.

That's when he played audio of Chris Spielman saying he thought the Lions were a 10 win team. It's the most optimistic he's been in three or four years, Spielman said.

Valenti did what many probably didn't expect and he went down a list of reasons to support Spielman's optimism. "Bottom line, I think they're better than they were last year," Valenti said.

He went on to say he believes the Detroit Lions are a nine or 10 win football team.

That's right, Mike Valenti, the team's most ardent naysayer and hater of all things related to Matt Patricia, believes the Lions will over perform expectations this year.

"Am I insane in the membrane for being positive about this football team?" Valenti asked. "I mean, do I like this franchise? No, I do not. Have they employed some despicable people in this organization? Absolutely. Do I think Patricia's kind of a joke? I do. But guess what, talent wins in this league."

This is a talent game, the Lions got better, end of story.

"Now all of a sudden you've got a chance to say our defense has a chance to be a top-12 unit," Valenti said.

Run the ball, stop the run, play at a slow pace, dominate the time of possession and the Lions will be a successful team.

"I think it's OK to be optimistic at this time of year," Valenti said.
