Former Michigan starting quarterback Devin Gardner proved he has moves on and off the field Thursday night during a local celebrity lip syncing contest.

Gardner was a fitted suit-wearing, hip-swiveling master of the dance floor when he competed against local radio, TV and sports personallties for New Day Foundation for Families, a Rochester Hills nonprofit dedicated to alleviating the financial burden of cancer.

Through its network of social workers at 36 hospitals across the state, New Day helps families overcome financial barriers to treatment and healing. "New Day is often the first light of hope for a family facing cancer," the nonprofit says.

Gardner certainly did his best to raise money for the foundation, bringing the crowd to their feet during his set where he twirled his heart out to a Kanye song.

On the field, Inkster-native Gardner was named the starting quarterback for Wolverines in 2013, a year he had 1,779 passing yards, 660 rushing yards, and 22 touchdowns. He made his bones in the 2013 Notre Dame game, when he led Michigan to a 41–30 victory over Notre Dame. Gardner completed 21 of 33 passes for 294 yards and four touchdowns while throwing one interception. Gardner contributed 376 yards of total offense against Notre Dame, eleventh best in Michigan history.

Per wikipedia, "On October 19, 2013 against Indiana, Gardner broke John Navarre's Michigan single-game record with 503 passing yards. He also broke Denard Robinson's Michigan single-game record with 584 yards of total offense.[34] Gardner and Robinson hold nine of the top ten positions on Michigan's all-time, single-game total yardage list, as reflected in the following chart (Jake Rudock has the other)."

None of that mattered at the Royal Oak Music Theatre, where Gardner took home the top prize for his moves ... and brought down the house.
