The legacy of George Perles is a large one at Michigan State. He coached the football team for 13 years and served as athletic director for three, and was later named to the Board of Trustees.

During his tenure as head coach, during which time the football team won two Big Ten championships, Perles had the opportunity to coach his son Pat -- who would later follow his father's footsteps on the sidelines. Pat was even part of the Michigan State staff from 2000-02.

Fast forward to 2019, and Pat is joining the Spartans' rival as an assistant offensive line coach, according to Field Yates.

The 55-year-old has worn myriad coaching hats in both college and the NFL. His first job was at Toledo in 1989, and he broke into the NFL with the Rams three years later. His last NFL coaching gig was with the Chiefs from 2009-11 -- he served the same role he'll hold at Michigan.

Most recently, Perles was a scout for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Michigan has seen significant turnover in its coaching staff this offseason. Perles is the fourth hire.
