(97.1 The Ticket) Many sources are reporting that Bryce Harper reached a deal with the Phillies for a 13-year, $330 million deal -- The largest contract in MLB and North American pro sports history.

The deal also includes a full no-trade clause, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.

It's a blockbuster, but what does Mike Valenti think about it? He thinks the massive offer was not just about play on the field.

"Bryce Harper, the deal he gets, a lot of it has to do with marketability ... Bryce Harper can do national ads. You've got to factor that in with deals at that level."

One caller said that Harper, 26, wants dollars instead of rings, and Valenti said he couldn't disagree.

When you talk about guys who hit the open market, Bryce Harper is one of those dudes who is a generational player, Valenti added. Players like him don't just hit the market.

And when one does, teams apparently are willing to open the purse wide.

The Dodgers had emerged as a contender in recent days and were reportedly offering a shorter-term contract to Harper; The Giants had also extended a reported 10-year deal to Harper. But in the end, he went with his walled and picked Philly.
