After playing sparingly in his first season at Michigan, guard Cole Bajema has entered the transfer portal.

He becomes the Wolverines' third defection this offseason, joining sophomores David DeJulius and Colin Castleton.

Bajema was the top-ranked player in John Beilein's final recruiting class. He kept his commitment when Juwan Howard took over after the 2018-19 season, but had a hard time finding the floor as a freshman. He averaged just 4.1 minutes over nine games.

Bajema did hit 10 of 13 field goals, including 4 of 7 from behind the arc, but it wasn't enough to earn a bigger role. He'll look for that elsewhere in 2021-22, after he sits out this season due to NCAA transfer rules.

The departures of Bajema, DeJulius and Castleton aren't entirely surprising, given Michigan's incoming recruiting class. The Wolverines have the No. 8-ranked class in the country, plus coveted grad transfer Mike Smith.

With Howard beginning to put his stamp on the program, the holdovers from the Beilein era are slowly being phased out.
