Tom Izzo and Michigan State have landed their first commit for next year's class -- and they beat out Juwan Howard and Michigan to do it.

Four-star combo guard Pierre Brooks, a Detroit native and the top recruit in Michigan in 2021 according to 247 Sports, chose the Spartans Wednesday in an announcement via Twitter.

Brooks, ranked No. 83 overall in his class by 247 Sports, averaged 23 points per game in his junior season at Detroit's Douglass Academy.

In addition to Michigan, he also had offers from the likes of Iowa, Butler and Xavier.
