Following the lead of other owners in pro sports, the Ilitches established a $1 million fund Friday to cover lost wages for part-time staff at Red Wings, Tigers and Pistons games in the outbreak of the coronavirus.

The fund will cover at least four Red Wings home games, eight Pistons home games and six Tigers spring training games at Joker Marchant Stadium, as well as concerts and other events at Fox Theatre over the next month.

"In this time of uncertainty, we are committed to standing with and supporting our dedicated and hardworking colleagues and providing them and their families the reassurance they deserve," Ilitich Holdings said in a statement.

The NBA, NHL and MLB have all suspended operations; numerous concerts and shows have been canceled as well. Empty venues means a loss of work for numerous part-time employees.

The fund established by Ilitch Holdings will pay any employee that was "scheduled to work at an event that has been cancelled in the next month." That includes WWE Friday Night Smackdown at LCA, Zac Brown Band at LCA, the Bachelor Live on Stage at Fox Theatre and the Frozen Four at LCA.

"Our sincere hope is that this provides comfort to our colleagues in this difficult time," said Ilitch Holdings. "When events resume, we look forward to our colleagues being safely back to work as normal."

Platinum Equity, the company founded by Pistons owner Tom Gores, has also committed to paying part-time staff at LCA during the NBA's stoppage.
