Jimmy Howard is following the lead of teammates Justin Abdelkader and Dylan Larkin.

The Red Wings goalie is donating $50,000 worth of N95 Masks to the Detroit Medical Center to protect healthcare workers on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic.

“These healthcare workers are fighting the battle of their lives, on behalf of all of us," he said in a statement through his nonprofit, the Jimmy Howard Foundation. "They are heroes, and we’ve all got to do what we can to support them and thank them for their tireless work right now and in the weeks to come.”

Howard is the third member of the Red Wings to make a significant contribution locally amid the pandemic. Larkin donated 50,000 gloves to the Detroit Medical Center and St. Joseph Mercy Medical Group, while Abdelkader paid for a day’s worth of meals for the workers at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital.

Larkin told the Jamie and Stoney Show his dad came up with the idea for the gloves.
