The Pistons look to have a rising star in Christian Wood, and teams around the NBA are taking notice.

It comes at a good time for Wood, who's set to be a free agent this summer. After making the veteran minimum of $1.6 million this season, he can expect a raise in the neighborhood of $10 million per year.

The Pistons will surely make a strong offer to keep Wood in Detroit. And they have the advantage of his Early Bird rights, which will allow them to exceed the salary cap to re-sign him. But Detroit will have plenty of competition for the 24-year-old center.

One team already eyeing Wood is the Knicks, according to Ian Begley. In fact, the Knicks, who will be flush with cap space this summer, are reportedly "enamored" with Wood, so much so they've been "monitoring (him) for much of the season."

In a youth movement much like the Pistons, the Knicks could offer Wood a significant role. He's blossomed as a starter in Detroit since the Andre Drummond trade, averaging 22.2 points and 9.9 rebounds while shooting 40 percent from three over the last 13 games.

Before the NBA was suspended due to the coronavirus -- and before Wood tested positive himself -- he had posted a new career high three times in four games, culminating with a 32-point performance last week against the 76ers.

This is everything the Pistons hoped for when they grabbed Wood off the scrapheap last summer. It's safe to say they'll make him a priority in the offseason. And it's safe to assume Wood would like to stay in Detroit, considering this is where his career has taken off.

But if a team like the Knicks makes a big offer in free agency, things might get interesting.
