Tua to the Lions? 

It's not nearly as far-fetched at it first seemed. 

In fact, the Lions are co-favorites to draft the Alabama quarterback, according to the Caesars Sportsbook. Detroit and Miami have the best odds at -110. 

The Lions pick third overall, while the Dolphins pick fifth. 

In his latest mock draft Tuesday morning, Mel Kiper doubled down on his theory that Detroit will take Tua. He first suggested the idea in January. 

Per Kiper, "The Lions say they’re not shopping Matthew Stafford, but there is some buzz that they like Tagovailoa, who might not work out for teams before April’s draft because of his hip injury. Is that just a smoke screen? ... Stafford’s contract is extremely tough to trade in 2020 ... but what if Detroit likes Tagovailoa so much that it keeps Stafford on the roster for another year?"

Three Trade-Back Scenarios For Lions With No. 3 Pick

Any scenario with the Lions drafting Tua would likely include him spending the 2020 season under Stafford's wing. It would protect Tagovailoa from rushing back into action and allow him to learn from a veteran QB, while Stafford gives Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia their best chance of success in a crucial season. 

It was reported last week that the Lions have engaged in trade talks involving Stafford, but Quinn emphatically shot that down
