The Tigers were supposed to open the 2020 season March 26 in Cleveland. The first pitch won't come until at least two weeks later.

Major League Baseball announced Thursday that spring training has been suspended and the start of the season will be delayed at least two weeks "due to the national emergency created by the coronavirus pandemic."

"This action is being taken in the interests of the safety and well-being of our players, clubs and our millions of loyal fans," the league said.

MLB said a variety of contingency plans regarding the 2020 schedule have been discussed, and more updates will follow.

The Tigers' home opener was scheduled for March 30 against the Royals.
