For the first time in two years, the Pistons will have a general manager.

The team is finalizing a deal with Troy Weaver, per Adrian Wojnarowski. Weaver most recently served as VP of basketball operations for the Thunder.

Weaver is expected to work in tandem with senior advisor Ed Stefanski and head coach Dwane Casey on roster construction. Stefanski has been Detroit's acting GM since he arrived in 2018, following the dismissal of Stan Van Gundy and Jeff Bower.

Five Biggest Questions Facing Pistons New GM Troy Weaver

Weaver has his work cut out for him in Detroit. The Pistons are in the early stages of a substantial rebuild, after chasing the playoffs for most of the last decade. One of his biggest early decisions will come in the draft, with Detroit potentially holding a top-three pick.

The Pistons are also searching for an assistant GM to work under Weaver after Malik Rose left the organization for a job in the NBA office. Tayshaun Prince is one of the reported candidates for that job.

Weaver also served as vice president and assistant general manager of the Thunder from 2010-18, following a brief stint as director of player personnel for the Jazz.
