A spring without baseball is looking increasingly likely.

As the coronavirus sweeps across the country, MLB announced Monday that Opening Day won't come until the middle of May -- at the earliest -- after the Center for Disease Control and Prevention advised against gatherings of 50 people or more for the next eight weeks.

"The Clubs remain committed to playing as many games as possible when the season begins," according to a statement from MLB.

The Tigers were scheduled to open the season March 26 in Cleveland, with their home opener coming March 30 against the Royals.
