Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman is hunting draft picks ahead of the trade deadline, but it's not clear if he has anything to sell.

Detroit's potential rentals have vastly underachieved this season. The one hope might be Trevor Daley.

The veteran defenseman has approached Yzerman about a trade to a contender, according to NBC analyst Pierre McGuire. And McGuire told Ottawa TSN 1200 on Thursday that three Western Conference teams could be interested in Daley's services.

"I know he's talked to Steve Yzerman about a trade. I could see Dallas where he started his career being very interested and I could see Colorado being very interested and (NBC color commentator) Eddie Olcyzk brought up Vegas on our show last night. I can see three teams in the Western Conference being very interested," said McGuire, via the Detroit News

Daley, 36, has loads of playoff experience, including two Stanley Cups to his name. He has a cap hit of about $3 million this season, after which he'll be a free agent. He could feasibly help a contender as a third-pair defenseman.

"Daley has no time left on his contract and he's won two Stanley Cups," McGuire said. "He was a really important part of those two Cup teams. He's more of a puck mover and a guy that can still jump into the rush. He had two assists (Wednesday night) and I thought he played a really solid game."

Trouble is, Daley has just four total points this season. And he's been frequently injured the past two seasons. If he's worth anything in a trade, it likely wouldn't be more than a conditional late-round pick.

Detroit's other rental candidates are Jimmy Howard and Mike Green. Yzerman could also shop the likes of Andreas Athanasiou, Luke Glendening and Darren Helm.

The trade deadline is Feb. 24.
