It should have been done last year.

The Detroit Pistons are finalizing a deal to trade their center Andre Drummond for Brandon Knight, John Henson and a second-round pick from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Mike Valenti reacted near the top of his 2-6 p.m. show with a mixture of approval and criticism.

What the Pistons got in exchange for Andre Drummond is essentially unimportant according to Valenti citing the damage Drummond could have done to the team's salary structure if he opted in next year.

"I'm not going to complain," said Valenti but clarified that he still leaves room for critique about the timing and overall plan. He calls the failure to move Drummond at the trade deadline in 2019, "gross mismanagement."

The team was holding out for a first-round pick that was never going to happen according to Valenti.

Valenti described what the Pistons got for their star center as, "dead bodies, bocce balls and a second-round pick."

"They've taken a step in the right direction," said Valenti, but he wants to see more before he can credit the team with having a real plan.
