Patricia's Failures Don't Make Jim Caldwell A Better Choice For Lions [OPINION]

DETROIT (97.1 THE TICKET) - It's not looking good for the Lions right now.

The Ticket's Pat Caputo says he's aware that one game does not make a season -- and after years of covering the Lions, and sports in general, there's no need to over-react.

"But ... when you couple that with the Lions performance Monday night against the Jets -- with the preseason that sent up red flags everywhere, coupled with a roster that is not dotted, like we all expected, with Bob Quinn's draft picks thriving -- it looks really, really bad for the Lions right now. I mean, like, they might be among the worst teams in the NFL this year - bad."

Please, please, don't suggest that Matt Patricia's failures somehow make Jim Caldwell any better for the Lions this season, he says.

"They are stuck with these guys through 2022. So, if you're a Lions fan, you better knock on wood, cross your fingers and hope it isn't that bad," says Caputo.

Jim Caldwell had his chance. He had a primrose path. The Lions had a schedule that was very, very easy and they just collapsed down the stretch.

The Jim Caldwell boat came and went.

"Perhaps the Lions hired the wrong guy," says Caputo, "but please, no, 'hey, Jim Caldwell should have remained the head coach of the Lions.' No, no, no, no. That's just not true."
