Red Wings Acquire Forward Adam Erne In Trade With Lightning

Steve Yzerman has made a trade with his former team for a player he knows well.
The Red Wings acquired forward Adam Erne from the Lightning on Wednesday for a 2020 fourth-round draft pick.

Erne, a second-round pick of Tampa Bay in 2013, posted seven goals and 20 points in 65 games last season. He's a heavy, hard-nosed winger who likes to mix it up. His 159 hits ranked third on the Lightning last year.
With the Wings, Erne will compete for a bottom-six forward role. There is at least one wing spot up for grabs entering training camp.
The 24-year-old is currently a restricted free agent, so Detroit will have to get him signed soon. He made $800,000 last season. A slight salary bump is probably in the cards.
Yzerman has made it clear in his short stint with the Wings that competitiveness is a trait he values in his players. Erne adds more of it.
