DETROIT (97.1 The Ticket) -- The Russian Five, among the most storied units in hockey history and one of the most beloved teams in Detroit sports history, is heading to the big screen.

A documentary, simply and aptly named "The Russian Five," debuted at multiple film festivals across Michigan last year. It will now be headed to select movie theaters across the state next month.

The doc, which examines the process of bringing the likes of Sergei Federov, Igor Larionov, Vladimir Konstantinov, Slava Fetisov and Slava Kozlov to the Red Wings and their rise to Stanley Cup glory, released a new trailer Sunday night.

The documentary won multiple film festival awards in 2018, including the Freep Film Festival's Spirit of Michigan award, and the audience award for best nonfiction film at the Traverse City Film Festival.

It is set to hit theaters March 22, including several Emagine screens across Metro Detroit. See the full list of theaters where you can catch "The Russian Five."
