(97.1 The Ticket) Detroit Tigers fans have waited 17 years for Alan Trammell to make it into the Hall of Fame.

"I'm thrilled that both are getting in at the same time," Jamie Samuelsen said, adding that no one would argue that Trammell is the best Detroit athlete of all time.

But is he the most beloved in history?

Co-host Mike "Stone" Stone answered: Alan Trammell and Steve Yzerman are the most beloved athletes he can remember seeing in Detroit.

He added that Trammell is special and so beloved, despite his lack of ability as manager, because people just don't hold the manager years against him.

"Yzerman and Trammell are the two in my mind," Stoney said.

Barry Sanders and Isaiah Thomas come close, Samuelsen added.

"Everybody has a Barry story, whether it was something they saw on television, something they saw in person, or a brief encounter, like they saw him at Oakland Mall or something," Samuelsen said, adding his untimely retirement knocks him out of the top spot.

Isaiah Thomas had that "middle finger" attitude that fans appreciate, he added; Barry and Trammell share a blue collar ethos that fans love. Fans lined up along parade routes when the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup just because they wanted to watch Yzerman hoist it.

Trammell is one of the greatest gentlemen that most people ever encountered in sports, Samuelsen added, and that puts him over the edge.

But is any athlete currently playing beloved?

There's not a single Pistons player on the list, Samuelsen said, nor on the Red Wings; Miggy has rabid fans for the Tigers, and also plenty of detractors; and it's the same for Stafford.
