Steve Yzerman was an intimidating player on the ice, and he's no different off it.

18-year-old Kirby Dach learned that the hard way during an interview with the Red Wings GM before this year's draft.

In an interview on the Spittin' Chiclets podcast, Dach, who wound up going third overall to the Blackhawks, said "Yzerman and Detroit grilled me."

"I sit down, I’m like, ‘Nice to meet you' -- hockey legend so I’m being respectful," Dach said. "(He) sits down, ‘So I heard you smoke weed.’"

That's one way to start.

"No," Dach replied. "I really don’t."

"He’s like, ‘OK,’ questions go on, ‘So are you sure you don’t smoke any pot, because I had some of your teammates telling me you smoke weed.’ I’m like, ‘No, I don’t really smoke weed.’ He’s like, ‘Are you sure?' I’m like, ‘Yeah,' and he’s an intimidating guy," said Dach. "He’s very intense and he’s in your face, and I’m sitting there starting to sweat. I’m like, I’m gonna have to change my shirt after this for the next interview.

"But then after I got out, he’s like, ‘Yeah, I know you don’t, but I was just fu*king with you.'"

Dach is able to laugh about it now. In the moment, it probably wasn't so fun.

And who knows what questions Yzerman asked of Moritz Seider, the defenseman Detroit took sixth overall.
